Home Story - Contemporary Loft New York City

Gramercy Loft by David Howell Design.

Beautiful eclectic loft designed by David Howell Design situated in New York City.

This is a beautiful, warm, contemporary interior design project by the talented residential and commercial designer, David Howell. I know you will enjoy being able to share in his work, by visually visiting this home.
Description by David Howell Design--
Located a stone’s throw from the opulent Gramercy Park Hotel and a quick cycle from the DHD office on Park Avenue, this is the first ground-up commercial project David Howell has undertaken in his twenty years in New York. Work on the building – five condos above street level, and commercial space, parking, and utilities basement below – began with two partners in 2007. The understated exterior, clad in mocha-coloured brick, blends in with its neighbors. It is distinguished by large, schoolroom-sized windows. The warm and striking interior design is a ideal example of DHD’s design philosophy. Photography by Emily Andrews Visit David Howell Design

This open floor plan is designed as a whole coordinated look, yet you have two separate eating areas.  Note the gorgeous light sculpture chandelier over the dining table.

Rooms are smaller in New York City, yet this Master Bedroom has a comfy sofa for a great private reading and relaxing area.

Contemporary Home for Today - Singapore

Colonial home in Singapore, rennovated by Ong and Ong, an international architectural and design firm.

This home is on Blair Drive on a wide trapezium shaped lot.  The windows have built in wooden louvers for privacy and light control.

IslBG
The original home was designed with a central courtyard which was redesigned to feature a swimming pool with garden area that can be seen through floor to ceiling glass.

Architecture and Interiors by Ong-Ong, Singapore

The use of wood and windows make the home, which is on a small lot, still feel like it is surrounded by nature.  The colors inside, including the greens contribute to this design.  This is a contemporary home that is built to have a warm, welcoming feel.

Using marble in a neutral color allows the greenery to show thru the beautiful windows.  Bringing
nature in always gives a home a serene look.

The architecture of this Singapore home is timeless and and will give the homeowners a fresh design palate for this home.

The architectural firm of Ong and Ong has offices in 11 cities, and you can see their portfolio of work on their web sited:    https://www.homestratosphere.com/ongong-59-blair-road/

Home Story - Contemporary Seaside Cottage

This home looks like it was decorated for editorial style.  That is a room that was styled to be photographed.  This home was for sure, the decorator is the photographer.

This is the seaside home of Paul Massey, the well known photographer.  His expertise is the ability to capture the mood of both the space and the subject.  His seaside home is in West Cornwall in the UK and he has used a beautiful texture mix of linen against white washed timber.  The property is in the harbour town of Mousehole.

High in the Sky -an Art Filled Home

You are too late, this extraordinary home sold last year.  If it was on the market now, I would have featured it on my other blog, Interior Ambitions, under "On the Market".

It is the decor, the furnishings, the art, the ceilings, the moldings etc etc, that will be appreciated on this blog, which is about Interior Design.  Nevertheless, this is an extraordinary property. This pre-war apartment with the 24 foot high living room, was listed by Monica Luque of Prudential Douglas Ellman.  It was listed for $20,000,000.

The homeowners found this large, high ceiling, light filled space that would be the perfect backdrop for their large art collection after looking at 120 apartments.

The apartment has more than 4,200 square feet, three bedrooms and 2½ baths. The home has a dining room with original paneling, wine cellar, library, another fireplace and a large kitchen built for entertaining.

The Miro-like ceiling is by Madrid-based artist Ramon Canet, who lived and painted in the apartment while the owners did early renovations.

In the day, light floods in. At night, the minarets of the museum appear like tops of lit temples in Marrakesh or Istanbul. An 8-foot working stone fireplace built in the 17th-century on the Iberian Peninsula centers the room. Floor to ceiling Corinthian columns give the feeling of being in a museum, castle, or giant public library.

Looking north over the American Museum of Natural History and Central Park through a movie-screen-size wall of steel-cased windows, a single living room with 24-foot-high ceilings is half as long as a basketball court.

Tis the Season for Dining

Featuring 14 Favorite Dining Rooms

Blue Egg Brown Nest Blog
This is a beautiful dining room, formal yet not stuffy. It has a warm, friendly feeling.  Neutral colors with lots of different textures make the soft color palate work well.  The touch of accent color is a soft turquoise, which is a color that will set the stage for adding decorations in the holiday seasons.

Designed by Jay Griffin
This dining room is a well appointed mix of contemporary, antique and electic things.  The chairs look like metal outdoor chairs, but look how inside and dressy they become mixed with this interesting antelope table.  The use of colored glass give a slight color pop and is a nice accent with the piece of art.

Designer Chad Eisner
Love the mix of art pieces.  This talented designer from Venice Beach, California used a neutral dining set and added the color and interest in the room with his choice of window treatments, and art pieces.  If these clients updated anything years down the road, it could easily be done with different art pieces.  The dining set is very classic and is timeless in style.
Designer Jonathan Adler

I have to stand in line to claim this talented designer as one of my favorites.  His use of color has dragged our neutral rooms into an enjoyable, happy, and comfortable style.  His rooms are just fun to look at, and they always appear ready to be used for entertaining.  He is a master at mixing patterns and strong colors, yet no one color takes over a room.  I have his number on speed dial, ready for when I win the lottery!

This is a warm dining room.  The mix of many colors of whites against the mocha brown walls is a great mix.  There is plenty of lighting to allow any sort of mood set when dining here in the evenings.
I can just see 6 friends dining and sitting for hours talking the night away in this comfortable room.

This is a casual dining area that is part of a living room-dining room combination.  The slip covers on the chairs are linen and the texture, plants, windows and flooring make this a very organic space.
This is a sophisticated and appeal dining room.  Use of black and white in design is very popular, an the touches of lime green keep it from becoming dark, even with the black walls.
Designer Tom Schereer

This is a very family friendly casual dining room.  The gallery wall and the blue and white platters dress up the room and create some interest.  The use of navy walls with the wood ceiling create a warm, inviting room.

Jennifer Mabley

This design firm specializes in Interior Design in the Hamptons.  The use of color is very dynamic and conducive to a vacation home on the water.  It is sure to be a lively dinner party at this home.

Color, comfort and interest, this simple dining room has it all.  The blue strie walls are color and texture and a great backdrop for the impressive art.  The chair mix and the white table legs are a classic style and the color keep it from becoming too formal.
Fox-Nahem Designs

Simple classic lines on the table and the accessories create a style background in the dining room, and it is finished with perfect soft orange comfortable chairs.
Kirsten Kelli Designs

This dining room is stunning, created by the 2 talented sisters Kirstin and Kelli.  Featured in Veranda magazine, the Design Firm operates in the Dallas, Texas area.  There are so many areas of interest to enjoy here, that you simply must be invited to dinner, so that you have time to take it all in.
Michel Niehn
This dining room is from a French farmhouse that has been restored by Michel Niehn in Provence.  The colors and texture mix are classic styling of this type of property.  The use of large pottery pieces are so appropriate and then it is finished off with a dazzling crystal chandelier.

This is a really eye catching modern dining room.  The shantung wallpapered wall is a great backdrop to the fab hanging balls chandelier.  The turquoise chairs are sophisticated and comfortable looking, and colorful enough to be present in this very artfully created dining room.

Now all you have to worry about is the cooking, the flowers, the guest list..............
